Gothic Dark - The Walls of Chester

Reverend Gray slid into the choir seats, his rugby-battered hand caressing the black polished oak. He picked up a hymnal and flicked through the pages. He stopped.  “How extraordinary”, he muttered.

Then louder, “Mrs Sidgwick, come here pray - I believe we have found it. You were right. There is evidence of the diabolical here!” He pointed to the open page where the hymn, “There is Power in the Blood” had been defaced – it was that horrible mark again, burnt through the pages, accompanied by the smell of blood and brimstone.  

Eleanor looked up from the tomb effigy of a long-departed bishop. She turned and regarded the Reverend. He looked up and gasped. The darkness behind her was taking form, becoming roiling smoke, becoming real. Something foetid and viscous spattered on Mrs Sidgwick’s shoulder. Gray screamed… 

1903, Cheshire, England 

The massive edifice of the Cathedral looms over ancient, encircling Chester City Walls. Something desperate and powerful has been contained there for centuries, but the Cathedral Canons, in their enthusiasm have recently disturbed the wards and protections. This something is working its way out - it wants its freedom. 

The Walls of Chester is a RPG scenario set in Edwardian England, which provides a Gothic Horror Mystery in the style of an MR James Ghost Story. Provided is a rules-light system, Gothic Dark, adapted from Cthulhu Dark. 

Will the Investigators unravel the mystery? More importantly, who will survive?
